Tax Appeals and Eminent Domain

Matt represents clients, including businesses, homeowners and tribal nations in contesting residential and commercial real estate property tax assessments in the Connecticut Superior Court.

He has challenged incorrect or overvalued property assessments that resulted in unfairly high taxation for numerous clients.   While he has often been able to negotiate appropriate reductions in assessment values, he has also tried tax appeals to verdict, obtaining relief for his clients through negotiation and from the Superior Court.

Matt has also represented numerous condemnees in eminent domain cases, including the precedent setting City of Norwich v. Styx Investors in Norwich, LLC, 92 Conn. App. 801 (2006) in which he convinced the Court to adopt the assemblage method for calculating valuation.
